A BIG Secret???

I saw an excellent painting exhibition yesterday. The paintings were made by Travis Conrad Erion. Every painting in the exhibition was well crafted.
Not only was the work well executed, but he ideas were thought provoking.
The show of work is at Goodwin Fine art gallery, located at 1255 Delaware Street.
I mentioned to Tina Goodwin, that she call the Denver Post, and get a reporter to cover the exhibition. The Denver Post has no art critic at this time. Personally I'd rather see profiles, or human interest stories, about artists and their lives and work. At one time, the Denver Post featured, great profiles on visual artists, who lived in and out of state. I met artist Russell Chatham as a result of a four page profile featured in a magazine section, called Empire. Until some one in the Denver art culture, stops keeping secrets, artists will be a secret.

Dumb Mistake

One time I took some one to an artist's open house. The artist is a very successful artist. Being around him, one can learn a lot. The person I took with me was ready to leave shortly after our arrival. My dumb mistake was, I drove my car to the studio, I should have had the person I took, drive their car.I took the person back to my house
so they could retrieve their car. Sad part was, this person was an artist. They could have learned a lot. I won't make that mistake again.
I always travel solo to art events these days.

More Dumb Art Gallery Tricks

I went in to the KINCADE gallery yesterday. The worker running the place didn't EVEN
acknowledge me. That's why he was working in the place and I'm not.
Too bad, he missed a good opportunity. I will be posting more DAGT.
Stay Tuned.

Dean Mitchell Successful Artist

I got a call from Dean Mitchell to day.
I t's away good to hear from him.
Dean is a diligent artist , he keep s regular studio
hours.
Dean has built a brand, his phone rings on a regular basis.
It's always goood when people do think to call an artist ,to do business.
Dean's good at getting press for himself.
The artist sells his work on a steady basis, so much so,
that he's liquid on the money side.
Dean is a good businessman artist.

No Pro Bono Again

I got asked again to do a career day , for no pay.
I can't give up a whole day to talk about my art career.
I can work in front of my easel , and create future income. It
seems on can never work long enough to be paid honorariums.
I don't like doing free talks, not for a whole day.

Art Schools Cheat Students

I have had conversations lately about the art business.
Art is a business. If one doesn't learn that fact, starvation will surely
show up.
Art schools can teach technique, but they don't teach business/survival
skills to art students. Sad but true.
This situation can be solved , if art profrssors would invite
working
artists to come and do question and answer sessions with their students.

A Lack Of How To Sell The Art

I continue to be puzzeled, by the lack of survial tricks, that are not mentioned in the art magazines.
Artists have many creative ways to live and make their art.
The art magazines seem to focus on how to make the art, more than how to sell the art.
There's a large number of videos available on painting, but nothing on the selling part.
I say this often, I'll say it again, art is a business.
There should be more information available on how to survive and still produce the work.
The art mags could be a big help in this task.
